Alan Choo, Baroque Violin

Violinist Alan Choo's playing has been described by The Straits Times as “an intoxicating brew of poetry and dare‐devilry.” A specialist in historical performance, he performs regularly with Apollo's Fire, and made his debut with the group at the Tanglewood and Ravinia Music Festivals as a soloist. Other recent solo appearances include performances with the Tafelmusik Winter Institute Orchestra, Case Baroque Orchestra, Baltimore Baroque Band, St. Petersburg Symphony Orchestra, Singapore Symphony Orchestra and Singapore Chinese Orchestra, amongst others.

Passionate about bringing early music back home to his native country Singapore, Alan founded Red Dot Baroque in 2018 and serves as Artistic Director and Concertmaster for the group. Of his performance of Vivaldi's Summer with Red Dot Baroque, The Straits Times described him as "an animated stage personality equalled by perfect intonation and the sheer ease and natural way of his bowing."

Upcoming performances include solos with Apollo's Fire in their Florida/Wisconsin tour end of March, collaborations with Shanghai Camerata in May, as well as performances at Boston Early Music Festival with the Case Baroque Ensemble and an English Baroque program with Red Dot Baroque in June.

Alan completed his undergraduate studies at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music and earned two Master’s degrees in Violin Performance and Early Music at Peabody Conservatory. He is currently pursuing his Doctorate in Historical Performance under Dr. Julie Andrijeski at Case Western Reserve University. For more information, please visit http://www.violinistalan.com.
